Choose the routine you want to follow, then decide how you will dry. Hold descriptions from different brands are not a shared rating scale.

PATTERN for different styles; tgin after leave-in

Use PATTERN Curl Gel on wet hair for wash-and-gos, braids or twist-outs, and on damp or dry hair for slick looks. PATTERN describes it as medium hold.

For tgin Curl Bomb, shampoo and condition, add a small amount of tgin leave-in to wet hair, then apply the gel. tgin describes soft hold. Choose another styler if you want to skip that leave-in step.

Curlsmith for a firm cast; The Doux for foam

Rake or smooth Curlsmith In-Shower Style Fixer through soaking-wet hair. Curlsmith rates its hold at 10. Air-dry or diffuse with little touching, then wait until completely dry before scrunching out the firm cast if you want a softer finish.

For curly styles, The Doux MOUSSE DEF goes liberally through damp hair from roots to ends. Use it alone for lighter definition or over gel for extra hold, then air-dry or diffuse. The brand uses both medium and medium-to-firm hold descriptions.

Start with the right level of wetness

Curlsmith needs soaking-wet hair. tgin’s leave-in-and-gel sequence needs wet hair. PATTERN uses wet hair for curl styles, damp or dry for slick looks. The Doux uses damp hair for curls.

Finish applying your products before drying. Leave Curlsmith’s cast alone until completely dry. The Doux allows air-drying or diffusing; follow your dryer’s instructions if you use one.

Check ingredients and measure what you use

All four ingredient lists include fragrance. PATTERN Original lists Wheat Amino Acids and Hydrolyzed Silk; tgin lists Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein; The Doux lists Silk Amino Acids. Curlsmith’s list has no explicit protein ingredient. These details do not predict hold or softness.

Use your own measured amount in the cost calculator. None of these makers gives a measured styling serving, and The Doux gives no volume per pump. Do not treat pump counts, grams and milliliters as interchangeable.

Keep the rest of the routine familiar

When trying a styler, note how wet your hair was, whether you used leave-in, the amount and how you dried. Keep those choices similar for your next wash.

Count both products if you put The Doux over gel; count just the foam when you use it alone. Between washes, refresh only the sections that need it and use a product with directions for that application.
